A double congratulations to our Athlete(s) of the Month; Micky and Greg. Although Greg marked his territory at Niche some months before his lovely wife, Micky has come on-board all guns blazing. Greg and Micky have been incredibly consistent with their training, always push (but work within) their limits, have a smile on their faces 95% of the time….and share a very cute rivalry. Let’s learn a little more about our Coupled up AOTM.
MICKY
Why did you start CrossFit?
I was losing my mojo at Mums & Bubs group training after 2 years as I was spending more time chasing a naked, mud splattered toddler who has a strange affinity for danger (and nudity). Greg (already at Crossfit) kindly pointed out that the solution was to get my butt out of bed to a 5.30am class sans toddler. Niche Crossfit fit the time table and my wanting to work a bit harder. Added bonus – the occasional workout with hubs.
What is your most memorable moment to date?
Hah! Piggy backing my very sweaty, near 100kg old boss up the car park and back at Bring A Friend day.
What is your most and least favourite WOD or movement?
I don’t really have a least fave – burpees do elicit a groan when I read the WOD the night before but no one loves burpees…do they? Fave so far, the handstands and skin the cat – takes me back to the school playground in 1982/83!
What tip would you give someone just starting in CrossFit?
Take your time to nail the technique and get into mobility.
What is one random, non-CrossFit interesting ‘thing’ about yourself?
Random – I’ve named every car I’ve owned and every car Greg has owned since we met over 20 years ago. Currently in our family we have Brian (mine) and Gloria (Greg’s), even the kids (inc 2 yo) refer to the cars by name.

Why did you start CrossFit?
I was getting fat and lazy watching Foxtel and switched over to ESPN and saw Rich Froning smashing out muscle ups at the Crossfit Games and thought “ how hard can that be?” Coincidentally, a couple of weeks later, I saw one of Jen’s sneaky little signs and decided to check Niche out and join up. That was the universe teaching me a lesson!
What is your most memorable moment to date?
Seeing my wife carry her 105kg ex boss on her back on bring a friend day!
What is your most and least favourite WOD or movement?
Any WOD with thrusters that has a progressive increase weight per set has got to be anyone’s favourite. Skipping should be banned from CrossFit.
What tip would you give someone just starting in CrossFit?
Take your time, get technique right first.
What is one random, non-CrossFit interesting ‘thing’ about yourself?
I have a share in 5 different businesses. Still waiting on one of them to make some money!
