kylieWho knew, but she was apparently pregnant for the past 8-ish months. Didn’t even notice. This soon to be mumma bear was an absolute inspiration throughout her pregnancy, not only with continuing her fitness routine, but also how she approached her training by listening to her body, adhering to advice from her doctors and working with our coaching team to ensure she and her baby-bump were happy vegemites. We have loved watching her continue her training with us throughout her pregnancy… so much so that KYLIE is our incredibly deserving Athlete of the Month for October!! Let’s learn a bit more about our October Athlete of the Month – if there’s any spelling mistakes, we’ll put it down to baby brain…

Why did you start CrossFit?
I had just moved back to the big smoke and was wanting to maintain my fitness, cycling was not an option anymore with all the crazy’s on the road…our housemate did CrossFit and he told me about a new program starting at the Cell. I thought I would give it a go, it couldn’t hurt and at least I could say I tried.

What is your most memorable moment to date?
It was’t one specific moment, but when I started not finishing workouts dead last. I found more self belief and also realised how much I could actually do, and how far I had come in such a short space of time. It renewed my energy and made me want to come even more.

What is your most and least favourite WOD or movement?
Most: my most favourite is a variation of the Baseline WOD but with 400m runs at the start and finish instead of the row. I like it because it gives me a really good indication of how far I have come, especially since I can track it since day one of my
CrossFit journey.
Least: almost anything that involves me having my arms near my ears…I still can’t get them to go there (but that’s my own fault for not doing mobility). I think the exception is pull ups, I quite like them also.

What tip would you give to someone just starting in CrossFit?
Just keep turning up. I loved CrossFit after the first session, I felt like I almost died but I still loved it. However, I still felt on the outer and I can be quite guarded initially until I get to know people. After the first few months I really looked forward to going not only because I enjoyed the workouts, but because I had met a nice bunch of people who were also really encouraging.

What is one random, non-CrossFit ‘thing’ about yourself?
I rode a postie bike 700km along the Gibb River road for charity. It was the best trip/adventure I have ever done. I now own a postie bike, but haven’t ridden it since falling pregnant. Links to the trailers are below:
