We are very excited to announce our Athlete of the Month for February…. JACKIE!!! Our AOTM award is chosen for various reasons, and Jackie covers many of these bases. Jackie’s first session at Niche was April 7th 2014, and since this time has always been an extremely loyal and hardworking piece of Niche meat. Jackie’s dedication to her training is second to none, and she has managed to spread her love of CrossFit to her man and now her kids. Of late, we have particularly noticed Jackie’s dedication to improving her weaknesses in open gym and she has even started to become a little smarter with looking after her body….this is a HUGE step for those who know her. Of course, Boss Lady is very proud of Jackie’s handstand balancing ability too (of course the primary reason for this award). Please congratulate our February Athlete of the Month and give her a slap on her tight bum. Let’s learn a little more about Jackie…
Why did you start CrossFit?
I had been training at a boxing gym & keeping relatively fit, but a friend introduced me to some CrossFit WOD’s and I started to watch some of the CrossFit Games on YouTube and was hooked instantly!
What is your most memorable moment to date?
I have a lot of memorable moments, but I would have to say the last workout of Riverside Jam 2015. It was axle bar Fran and I was really worried about it because Thrusters always scared me. I went into it thinking “it’s the last workout of a long, hot day. Get this over with as quickly as possible”. I did my fastest time I’ve ever done in Fran and came second in the workout. I can still hear all the Niche supporters cheering me on and the cheer that went up when I finished still makes me proud!
What is your most and least favourite WOD or movement?
I used to really dislike Thrusters but now I actually quite like them. I love handstand push-ups and rope climbs…not a massive fan of rowing but I think it’s only because I’m not strong at it.
What tip would you give someone just starting in CrossFit?
Don’t overthink!!! There are always scaling options. Everyone RX’s their own workouts so don’t be worried about what others are doing around you. It took me a long time to learn this…
What is one random, non-CrossFit ‘thing’ about yourself?
Ummmm, I was the State Champion record holder for the 1500m “Walk” in under 13’s. It took 8 years before the record was broken.
