It’s FANTASTIC GREG! Because he has a shirt that says so & let’s face it, never have truer words been printed! This ‘silver-fox’ is part of the dynamic duo that is Mickey & Greg and has graced the 5:30 am class since the dawn of Niche in 2014. Greg has been an integral part of the community, barely missing the chance for a social activity, in-house event, CrossFit Open battle, or even inter-class battle (thanks, Fi). Most recently, Greg’s bounce-back from knee surgery has been super impressive! He has embraced all that Niche stands for in his recovery process and has consequently been PB’ing in multiple fitness domains! An absolute legend of a man… no wonder he nabbed himself such a hot wife 😉
Why did you start CrossFit?
It was a designated plan to create multiple abs from a single ab, it failed but have had a lot of fun and met some awesome people along the way!
What is your most memorable moment to date?
Well, well… sooo many. Personally, it would be the day at the masters open WOD where we had 8 rounds of rope climbs. At just over an hour and 5 minutes I called it quits during round 5 or 6. The kind hearted support crew believed it was my shoes causing the problem and we tried on about 8 different sets over the course of the hour from everyone in the gym – all to no avail. Or possibly the day I out max repped Fi on double unders and she had to cheat to try and beat me or even the day Guru Phil nearly wore a hole in his forehead from doing hand release push ups at the Open in 2017. Bro Friday from two weeks ago. Hearing Trace Adkins blaring out at 5:20am from Badonkadonks car. Even watching Johnny C do strict ring muscle ups at this year’s open at 51 years of age( you cannot beat genetics) – inspirational!
What is your most and least favourite WOD or movement?
I’m up for everything really (as the boss at home knows). Pistols and Bar Muscle Ups are the goals this year.
What tip would you give someone just starting in CrossFit?
Stay away from grumpy people at the gym-Fortunately, Niche doesn’t have any of those… Really – we don’t…
Have fun, work hard, keep trying to improve and listen to the technical advice from the coaches- remember, it’s a journey…
What keeps you coming back to CrossFit?
Apart from Fi – it is definitely the promise of getting some of Mal’s mum’s cannoli – I am going to keep asking!!
Oh – and beating Simon to getting a first BMU this year – game on Oaten!
What is one random, non-CrossFit ‘thing’ about yourself?
I have a share in a racehorse that won 5 races in a row in Esperance this year!
