Our Athlete of the Month for September is….CAITLIN!!! I’m not sure if you’ve noticed lately, but Caitlin has made some ridiculous improvements in her training over the past two months. Why? Firstly, she is just a cool person (with a strange accent), so gains were inevitable. Secondly, Caitlin has put an enormous amount of energy into the process of identifying, owning and addressing areas of her training that need that extra bit of attention. This is one of the most important aspects of CrossFit; to be able to identify and accept our weaknesses, and then work to address them. As a result, Caitlin is now moving like a boss and has become a much more confident athlete. The change is huge! Let’s hear from our Athlete of the Month for September.
Why did you start CrossFit?
I like the combination that CrossFit offers, the lifting and endurance. And I like how much it pushes me and has made me better even though there are still WODs where I definitely struggle.
What is your most memorable moment to date?
My most memorable moment would be when I got down on myself for having a hard time push pressing a weight I had done before and it turned out I hadn’t realised I was using a men’s bar and it was actually a PR.
What is your most and least favourite WOD or movement?
I enjoy WODs like Fight Gone Bad and dislike ones with running as many of us do. Running is a major weakness of mine but CrossFit has definitely improved my running.
What tip would you give someone just starting in CrossFit?
My tip would be just jump in and enjoy it, don’t feel like you are being judged or that everyone is watching you as I kind of did at the start as that’s just not the case. This is the most supportive gym environment that I have had the opportunity to be a part of and everyone was a beginner at one point.
What is one random, non-CrossFit ‘thing’ about yourself?
I used to ride and train horses for people for a while back home before starting vet school.
