It’s not often that someone is awarded Athlete of the Month for the second time, but this top-notch human has truly shown what she is made of throughout her recent rehabilitation process. The superstar vet nurse sustained a fracture of the tibia from a big ole’ horse kick at work! Taking it all in her stride, Marcia dove head first into her rehab program without even a hint of divergence. Consequently, she’s made a phenomenal recovery and is almost back full mobility and strength in less than 20 weeks. Throughout the whole process, Marcia has been fiercely upbeat, positive and inspiring. She is a wonderful example of how CrossFit provides an outlet when times are tough through the community that it embodies and the physical aid it provides.

In one sentence, how do you describe CrossFit to your non-CrossFit buddies?
Haha I generally try not to talk about CrossFit with my non-CrossFit buddies… but if I had to: It’s workouts that are never the same with a mixture of functional movements, weightlifting and powerlifting… anyone and everyone can do them and I love that the results are measurable! In all seriousness, it’s the best investment I’ve ever made for myself!

If you could choose any celebrity to WOD with, who would it be and why?
Ooh this is a tough one!! I’m just going to be random and say Ryan Reynolds, because
A) he’s very easy on the eyes
B) he’s hilarious and
C) well, actually that’s all I’ve got haha
However, if I could choose a CrossFit celebrity, it would definitely be Tia-Clair Toomey (her humility and mentality is amazing.) Throwing down with her would be incredible!

What kept you motivated and on track during your Rehab process with such fierce focus?
Obviously, I was pretty devastated at first but quickly changed my perspective and goals and knew I would come out of this a better person than before. Becoming unmotivated and skipping rehab was not an option for me. It was definitely a combination of the people at the gym keeping me motivated and encouraging me to keep my head up and attitude positive… and the fact that I love a Challenge… recovery ‘For time’!! Woohoo – smashed it!

Favourite artist/song to WOD to?
I don’t know if I have a favourite, but I do love a good gangster track, or something that I can have a bit of dance around to in between movements.

Smooth or Crunchy peanut butter?
Did you know there’s an in between!! It’s called Smunchy! But definitely Crunchy!
